Module 4: Summary
Two big challenges that work against the “Golden Hour” (the critical first hour after an injury) are how far farms/ranches are from emergency services and how long it can take to reach the scene. That’s why teaching first aid to farm/ranch families and workers is so important. It not only helps the injured person right away, but it also builds trust with the community, raises awareness about farm dangers, and helps reduce feelings of helplessness after an incident.
You also learned about RF-DASH’s farm curriculum and how it is designed with farmers/ranchers in mind. It uses real examples and focuses on the kinds of injuries and emergencies you are most likely to face.
Finally, you reviewed what makes a good 911 call. You learned how to manage family members at the scene so they don’t accidentally get in the way or put themselves in danger. All of these skills help you respond more safely and effectively when seconds count.
